Nucleus Vision partners with ICRISAT to bring transparency to food and crop supply chain
Nucleus Vision has partnered with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) to help realise their vision of bringing the world nutritious and healthy food. By taking advantage of Nucleus Vision’s proprietary blockchain protocol, ICRISAT will take several steps towards achieving their vision of a food secure world. Headquartered in Hyderabad, ICRISAT will also work closely with Nucleus Vision in exploring other exciting blockchain applications in the food and crops industry to help spearhead agricultural development and a better livelihood for farmers.
Nucleus Vision CEO Abhishek Pitti said, “We at Nucleus Vision measure our success by the impact that we create in everyday life. To be part of enabling greater efficiencies in a 60% agrarian economy like India, through ICRISAT, is a dream come true for us. We will be working tirelessly on this partnership in the coming months to change lives through blockchain innovation.”
ICRISAT conducts agricultural research for rural development, across the world, with a special focus in India and Africa. The company’s initial focus was crop improvement in drought stricken areas, but it has since branched out into creating sustainable rural livelihoods in developing countries. Major regional centres for the organisation are in Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
The organisation has also been granted special status as a UN organisation in India. Even more interesting is the fact that the organisation adopted an Open Access policy for its research publications in 2009. It counts itself among a small number of agricultural research organisations to have done so. As of June 2010, about 3000 publications are freely available to the public.
